doncheadle A short and sweet one today.

Don Cheadle is ready to step behind the camera for his directorial debut, Kill the Trumpet Player, about jazz musician Miles Davis. Cheadle will also star in the film, presumably as Davis, while Ewan McGregor and Zoe Saldana are also rumored to be in talks to join. This is an indie, so it will be up for grabs at AFM, where its future will be decided. [Screen Daily]

Noomi Rapace is a pretty well respected actress thanks to her turn as the original Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and now she’s taking on a new sort of challenge, by playing up to seven different characters in a new indie sci fi drama called What Happened to Mondays? She’ll play septuplet sisters who must work together to solve a mystery and avoid execution in an over-populated world with a very, very strict one-child policy. [THR]

• Did you like Dolphin Tale? Are you excited for Dolphin Tale 2? Here is a story just for you. Real life one armed surfer Bethany Hamilton, who lost the limb to a shark attack and has dabbled in acting, has joined the cast for the sequel about the amazing dolphin who developed telekinesis powers and helped a small town catch a thief and save Christmas.* Hamilton will play herself. [The Wrap]

Neill Blomkamp’s third feature, Chappie, has begun filming with Sharlto Copley lending his voice to a robot and Hugh Jackman and Dev Patel leading the human cast. Sigourney Weaver, Ninja, Yolandi Visser, Jose Pablo Cantillo and Brandon Auret have joined the cast as well to help tell the story of a prodigal robot who is kidnapped and then adopted by a strange and dysfunctional family. [The Wrap]
