Though his storyline had some definite closure during the first film, it seems that Stephen Lang will be returning for all three of the Avatar sequels.
James Cameron made an official statement:
Steven was so memorable in the first film, we’re privileged to have him back. I’m not going to say exactly how we’re bringing him back, but it’s a science fiction story, after all. His character will evolve into really unexpected places across the arc of our new three-film saga. I really look forward to working with such a gifted actor, who’s also become a good friend.
Well, that’s a nice surprise. I’ve hinted before that Sigourney Weaver‘s return might be rather Swamp Thing-y, for want of a better term. Will Lang undergo a similar transformation?
My bet is that we’ll be looking at a cyborg, of sorts. The green versus the gun metal. It’s on-message, for sure.
But what’s this about his character arc evolving across the three picture storyline? Redemption lies ahead, I’m guessing.
Production on the films is expected to kick off in around a year. Post production will be pretty time consuming. When will we actually get to see the films? December ’16, ”17 and ’18, I’ve been reminded.
