Apologies for my paucity of blogging, I’m overseas with a broken internet situation and while this story is costing me a little cash money and a lot of sweat to post, it’s just too interesting to pass over.
So, here it is: according to Harrison Ford himself, there’s a real chance he’ll agree to appear in Alcon and Ridley Scott‘s proposed Blade Runner spin-off or sequel.
Ford told IGN:
Yeah, we’ve been chatting about it. I truly admire Ridley as a man and as a director. I would be very happy to engage again with him in the further telling of this story.
As far as I know, Rick Deckard could be set for anything from a quick cameo to a supporting role in this new drama though, a few times now, Scott has stressed that he wouldn’t be the main character again.
And that’s even assuming Ford would be playing Deckard. If so, it could cause some interesting problems – and here comes a spoiler for the original Blade Runner, or at least something as near to a spoiler as matters – because Deckard was apparently revealed to be a replicant in the original film. Would a replicant have aged the way Ford has?
Maybe so, and that could well be a dramatic engine for this storyline. Or perhaps Ford will be playing a different character entirely?
Anything now would be speculative fiction. Let’s first see when Scott gets this project going – he’s just wrapped press for The Counselor right now and is deep into shooting Exodus. Blades Runners could well be years and years away.
In any case, it’s nice to know that Ford and Scott would work together again. The last experience wasn’t a totally happy one, but they’ve still both got some real skill, could well do one another some real favours in a collaboration.
The Counselor is out in the US on October 25th then the UK on November 15th.
