Robert Zemeckis In Talks To Direct Charlie Kaufman-Scripted Chaos Walking

chaoswalking This is very exciting.

Forget Twilight, forget The Hunger Games, the best young adult series in my eyes is Patrick Ness's Chaos Walking trilogy, kicked off with the first book, The Knife of Never Letting Go. Well, like every other YA novel, the movie rights were picked up forever ago, but now it seems there may finally be some forward movement.

Charlie Kaufman was set to write the screenplay (exciting in and of itself) over a year ago, and he must be getting close to finally finishing it because Robert Zemeckis has begun negotiating to take directing duties, according to The Wrap.

The story follows Todd, a teenager living on a colonized Earth-like planet where there are only men left and all thoughts can be seen and heard by everyone (it's called Noise). He grew up believing the native alien population, called the Spackle, killed all the human women and released the Noise upon all the men, but naturally, he soon discovers his own shadowy government may be behind everything. It sounds a little weird, I'll admit, but it's just really great and the cinematic potential is huge.

Anyway, now is the time to enjoy the excitement of this project finally moving along before the terrible casting decisions bring all our hopes and dreams crashing down again.
