Frederic Wiseman's documentaries are known for the way in which they appear observational, like you are the fly on the wall in a particular institution, but Wiseman doesn't just leave a camera in a room to see what happens. His films are carefully constructed, thoughtfully created and edited with a lot of attention to how shots fit together. And they are often remarkable.
His latest is is entitled At Berkeley and takes a look behind the scenes at Berkeley University. At Berkeley is over four hours long and according to reports coming out of Venice and Toronto it's top class Wiseman. I can't wait.
At Berkeley is playing the London Film Festival in October and will no doubt be available soon through Zipporah, the official distributor for all of Wiseman's films.
