A Comic Show – It's All About Justice League #23

Aaron Haaland writes;

Hey Fandom! This week's New Comic Now is the calm before the storm. It's still a hurricane of an ending for Trinity War, but next week's Forever Evil is going to tear the DCU in half (and maybe the internet or at least Nightwing fans).

Justice League #23 was the finale that I wanted and in some ways predicted. I haven't been as excited with these characters and the DCU since Blackest Night. I know New 52 was about reintroducing these heroes and getting new fans, and that's worked to varying degrees, but I've been craving my fanboy Crisis level event. Forever Evil looks like it'll be red meat for the fanbase. Red Lanterns continued to out do itself. I'm amazed at how effortless Venditti, Soule, and company have made the Lantern books their own shared pocket universe. You don't need to read New Guardians to enjoy Red Lanterns, but if you did pick up Kyle's title last week you'd know exactly how hopeless it is to have Guy waiting for a blue guy to pull him out. I got a little breaking bad vibe from this issue, Guy is Pinkman and Hal is Walt. Batman Superman is the episode of Smallville we never got. Batman Incorporated Special was so worth it just for Ethan's Bat-cow story!

Over at Marvel we got another part of Infinity, New Avengers #9. I've read next week's Infinity #2 and enjoyed how week's installment of New Avengers lead into and enriched it. Young Avengers is may second favorite Marvel book, after Hawkeye. It's got a voice, a feel, a trade dress, but as the title of volume one states; it's got substance with its style. The new Guardians of the Galaxy has its first volume out also, but what may not be on your radar is the Rocket Raccoon special. It reprints his whole 80's mini for just $7.99.

Itty Bitty Hellboy was cuteness overload, but all Hellboy fans should check it out. Art and Franco are kings of their craft; they do something a kid would think was cool while entertaining the hardcore lifelong fans. Check out their Tiny Titans, its way more awesome than the New 52 Teen Titans. Rucka and Lark's Lazarus is world building our unfortunate future. And if you're looking for Collider #2, it's now called FBP #2 (Federal Bureau of Physics). It's just as good on the inside though.
