Ahead of next week’s Comic-Con panel, Marvel and ABC have used a new chat with EW to dribble out some fan-baiting titbits. Don’t expect any real answers, but… well, some rather vague clues as to what questions we should really be asking.
So, for example, EW say that the pilot only “hints” at the solution of the great big Agent Coulson mystery. Apparently, Coulson will be as in the dark as the rest of us after his SHIELD colleagues decree that he should “never know the truth.”
Never? Well, not until the closing moments of the first season’s penultimate episode, I’d guess. I can almost taste that cliffhanger from here.
Apparently the plot of the pilot episode has been spun out of a particular Marvel movie – but not The Avengers. That would be too obvious. So place your bets now. My chips are on The Incredible Hulk.
It’s in weaving together new stories with the events of the big movies that the show’s creators hope to address the standby nerd criticism: where are Iron Man and Thor when all of this chaos is going on?
I’m not sure they’ll ever be able to answer that quibble to everybody’s satisfaction, but I also don’t think it’s outside of the realm of easily suspended disbelief. Not if The Hulk, Loki and Thanos aren’t.
