Portsmouth Street To Be Renamed The Ocean At The End Of The Lane After Neil Gaiman's New Book

portsmouth

Neil Gaiman was born in Portsmouth, on the English South Coast. He now lives in America, but a part of him will always be in Portsmouth. Literally.

Because the lane, west of Canoe Lake (pictured), will now be named 'The Ocean At The End Of The Lane', the title of his most recent novel.

Neil Gaiman will be giving a talk and book signing at Portsmouth Guildhall on 18 August from 7pm.

A press release quotes his reaction as "Gobsmacked, befuddled, delighted and baffled. When you make things up, you never expect them to creep out into the real world… I lived in Portchester and Southsea until I was five. But my grandparents and much of my family were in Southsea, so I was back every school holiday and stayed as long as I could. I was even Barmitzvahed in the Portsmouth Synagogue."
