Prometheus Sequel Going Ahead – Jack Paglen Writing, Ridley Scott Might Not Direct

I had heard a rumour recently that Ridley Scott was losing interest in directing a sequel to Prometheus. I wondered if this might mean the end of the project altogether, or would simply prefigure the injection of some new blood – or fresh DNA, as Scott himself might say.

Now Variety have discovered that the film is alive, with Jack Paglen hired to write the screenplay. He’s the man behind Wally Pfister‘s currently-filming directorial debut, the AI thriller Transcendence. He has a similar reputation for individual sci-fi thinking as Jon Spaihts, author of the first draft of the first Prometheus.

Variety also note that while Ridley Scott is in place as a producer:

it’s unknown at this time if he will direct.

The perfect director might be right under our noses. Consider Johnny Hardstaff, the man behind these videos made to accompany Prometheus. They’re extraordinary.

The trailer for Ridley Scott’s The Counselor is going to appear online any day now. It looks pretty special. I think I’d be glad if he passed the reins on the Prometheus series to another filmmaker, and I think Hardstaff would an exciting, provocative choice.
