BC Mag FCBD 2013: The Ten Best Comics To Read (That No One Else Will Tell You About)

Everyone will recommend you the same kind of comics to start with. Superhero comics like Spider-Man, X-Men, Superman, Batgirl… or classics like Maus, Bone, Cerebus, V For Vendetta, Sandman, Dark Knight Returns, Watchmen… award winners like Fun Home, Dotter Of Her Father's Eyes, Acme Novelty Library… or current darlings like Phonogram, Scott Pilgrim, Chew, Walking Dead, Hawkeye, Fables, Adventure Time or Pride Of Baghdad.

But here are ten comics that it is very unlikely anyone will recommend, especially to a newcomer of comics. But all are completely wonderful.

Beanworld by Larry Marder
It is very difficult to recommend Beanworld by saying that it is "like" something else. Because Beanworld isn't really like anything else. It has a very cartoony, simple style, it shows the process of the Beanworld, where Beans farm their geometric world for sustenance, raise their children and address strange alien encounters while dealing with concepts of art, purpose and love. The weightiest of philosophical issues considered and addressed by what seem to be the simplest of creatures.
