BC Mag #3: Life In The Gutters

When Gail Simone was rehired on Batgirl by DC Comics after being fired a week previously, it reminded me of a couple of past examples I'd heard. And both included Mark Waid.

The first was in 2003, when Marvel Comics' EVP Bill Jemas decided to fire Waid and Mike Weiringo from Fantastic Four, when Waid declined to write the book as he described as a "suburban dramedy." Jemas hired playwright Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa to take the book on. There was internet outrage and within weeks the situation had been reversed and Waid and Wieringo were back on the comic.
