Guardians Of The Galaxy Stands Alone From The Avengers Sequel, Is 95% Set In Space

star lordIn don’t know how long it’s been since I’ve seen Marvel’s Kevin Feige answer questions about a film that had already been released. The poor chap is constantly being tapped for ‘clues’ as to where the Marvel Movieverse is going to be headed in future.

And it’s happening again. SFX spoke to Feige for their next issue and have previewed the interview online.

Here’s a quote in which he’s helping them understand the relationship between the Phase 2 movies:

Guardians and Thor will take the brunt of the cosmic side of the universe, particularly Guardians, which is 95% in space…  It’s much more of a standalone film [though] it takes place in the same universe.

This seems contrary to the Tony-Stark-meets-Star-Lord beat that we’re all expecting, as well as the continuation of Thanos from Avengers through Guardians and on to Avengers 2. But it isn’t, not really. “Standalone” could mean anything.

I guess Feige is really addressing that fact that the new Avengers lineup isn’t going to feature a talking tree or raccoon with a gun.

Iron Man 3 is coming along in April, or May if you live in the US. That’s the official kick-off for Phase 2, and I think anticipation is building insanely. After tomorrow’s trailer? I think the roof might blow off.
