London Super Comic Con – Slotting Right In

IMG_1478 Dan Hart writes from London Super Comic Con;

So, that was Day 1 of the second London Super Comic Con. Crikey, my feet are killing me.

After last year's sterling performance, could the LSCC follow it's freshman year without a sophmore slump? Honestly? Yes it did.

This year there are more creators, including a sizeable small press and indie section, more traders and an improved layout to the show floor (one of last year's few criticisms was that the traders' section was far too cramped). A second panel area and a few more panels would be an improvement for next year. They've certainly got the space,

IMG_1486The overall vibe was one of genuine fun. Everyone seemed to be having a good time, from the fanboys with suitcases full of books to get signed to the cosplayers who came in force. (Take a look at the pics on Bleeding Cool, there were some amazingly cool costumes) Admittedly, people did start to flag later in the afternoon but the now-traditional libations at the Fox, post-con, gave everyone a second wind.

Sketches were requested, created and exchanged at a rate of knots. The artists' alley was, unsurprisingly, extremely busy all day long. Several artists had to close their lists for the weekend after only a few hours, they had so many requests. Those of you who know me may remember I'm a little bit of a Harley Quinn fan so yes I did get a sketch or two of HQ…

G'Nort won the very well-attended cosplay competition in a final three of him, Beast and Supergirl. Cosplay Judge, and former Supergirl artist, Ian Churchill was pushing for Kara Zor-el to win, can't imagine why…

IMG_1472I have to give special mention to Dan Slott, who signed all day. ALL DAY. The man is a machine! Actually, given how many signatures he did, I'm starting to think that he might actually have a bionic hand. There was a permanent queue snaking round the aisles of fans holding their copies of Amazing Spider-Man, She-Hulk, Arkham Asylum and plenty of copies of the show-exclusive Superior Spider-Man 1 cover.

"But Dapper Dan!" I hear you cry "What gossip do you bring from the showfloor? What's in the pipeline from the great and the good gathered in the galleria?!" I did hear one or two snippets that had me quite excited, but am sworn to secrecy. At least for a few weeks…

Right, I must leave you now, my work here is done and my people need me. Also, Day 2 beckons and I want to find out who's looking the most harrowed after last night's excess.IMG_1479IMG_1476IMG_1484IMG_1468IMG_1480IMG_1485IMG_1471
