Man, they’re moving fast on the planned SHIELD TV show. When is this thing expected to go to air, do you think? Surely they’re not going to get it on screens before next autumn… are they?
After Clark Gregg, as the irreplaceable Agent Phil Coulson, the first actor to lock down their part is Ming-Na Wen, alum of Eureka, ER and the voice of Disney’s Mulan.
Deadline say she’ll be playing the part of Agent Melinda May, then offer this lightly comic character breakdown:
Soulful and slightly damaged by her combat experiences, Melinda is an ace pilot, a weapons expert and a soldier who can – and has – gone beyond the call of duty.
Yeah, these casting breakdowns are so stripped-down they can just seem preposterous. I’m sure Joss Whedon, co-writers Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen, and Ms. Wen herself will breathe an awful lot more depth into the character just during the pilot.
In the original casting call, Agent May was listed as Agent Althea Rice, aka The Calvary. I assume the change is real and not some kind of smoke screen, but I also can’t quite figure it. Best I can do is “Things change.”
So… how long until the next bit of SHIELD casting, do you reckon? I’m thinking hours, not even days…
