Official Plot Blurb For Spike Jonze New Sci-Fi Movie, Her

There hasn’t been a huge amount of info sloshed around in respect of Spike Jonze‘ next feature, but an official plot blurb and sales poster have been added to the site of Annapurna Pictures, its producers (with thanks to The Playlist for the pointer).

The blurb reads like this:

In the not so distant future, Theodore (Joaquin Phoenix), a lonely writer purchases a newly developed operating system designed to meet the user’s every needs. To Theodore’s surprise, a romantic relationship develops between him and his operating system. This unconventional love story blends science fiction and romance in a sweet tale that explores the nature of love and the ways that technology isolates and connects us all.

I do hate it when a blurb like that ends with some kind of explanation. Stomps the life out of the thing.

Now, according to The Film Stage, the film is going to be called Her. Obvious, but it still seems to get stuck on the way off my tongue. It’s no She.

It may just be a working title, however, as the sales art currently doing the rounds has no fixed label, look:

As well as Joaquin Phoenix, the film is set to star Amy Adams, Rooney Mara, Samantha Morton, and Olivia Wilde though I can’t see any clear indication which of those, if any, will be voicing the operating system. Some places seem to be giving Adams top billing, so it could maybe be her? Yeah, I’m just guessing.

Jonze dabbled with similar themes in his short, I’m Here, which tells a love story between robots played by Andrew Garfield and Sienna Guillory. It’s rather good and you can watch it in the player below.
