The Las Vegas Comic Con Across The Street From MorrisonCon

The Las Vegas Comic Con Across The Street From MorrisonCon

One city. One street, One weekend. Two comic conventions.

The first is MorrisonCon, at the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas.

The second is Las Vegas Comics Expo. Also in Las Vegas. At Alexis Park All-Suite Resort, which is described in its very address as being opposite the Hard Rock.

MorrisonCon costs $500 for three days, Las Vegas Comics Expo is $40 for two days.

MorrisonCon has guests Grant Morrison, Robert Kirkman, Jim Lee, Frank Quitely, Chris Burnham, JH Williams, Jonathan Hickman, Gerard Way, Darick Robertson and Jason Aaron.

Las Vegas Comics Expo has guests Mike Mignola, Len Wein, J. Scott Campbell, David Finch,  Mark Brooks, Simon Bisley, Eric Canete,  Drew Johnson, Adam Hughes, Marat Mychaels, Nei Ruffino, JG Jones, Kyle Higgins, Jim McCann, Janet Lee,  Joe Benitez, EBAS (watch those two) and many more.

MorrisonCon has no creators associated with Before Watchmen. Las Vegas Expo has loads of them.

Neither are promoting any female comics creator guests. But Las Vegas Comic Expo has five to MorrisonCon's none.

Las Vegas Comic Expo has not yet released programming. But MorrisonCon starts with;

THE CON

MorrisonCon kicks off in style with a new collaborative project â€" a one-off, never-to-be-repeated performance created especially for this event. Grant Morrison teams up with Gerard Way and James Dewees of My Chemical Romance for The Con â€" a thirty minute spoken-word piece with music. Part short story, part history, part occult ritual, as Howard Hughes faces Liberace in a duel to the death for the soul of Las Vegas!

as well as

J.H. WILLIAMS III'S SUBLIMINAL WORLD

Sometimes a cigar isn’t just a cigar. J.H. Williams III shares how he imbues his art with deeper subliminal meaning and taps directly into our primal brain's understanding of instinctual symbols. This visual dissection of the emblematic designs of Williams' work will open the door to a larger Jungian world where your subconscious mind experiences images. Learn how myth and symbol are the very DNA of Williams’ gorgeous art and design.

CREATION MYTHS: SCIENCE, RELIGION & MAGIC

Jonathan Hickman and Jason Aaron are architects of worlds of science, magic and myth. Bringing their unique and perhaps conflicting perspectives together, these two authors sit down to discuss the brink of human understanding and beyond. Is Arthur C. Clarke’s belief that “any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic” correct? Hickman and Aaron discuss how the theory holds up, and take an analytical journey through hard science to theoretical hypotheses to the work of the Gods. What inspirations are drawn from centuries of theological doctrines and the course of scientific discovery and how are they be applied to modern storytelling?

Which sound pretty hard to beat. Also Grant Morrison has described MorrisonCon as less of a comics convention and more of a life changing experience. The Las Vegas Comics Expo describes itself as… a comic con.

Tickets are still available for both.
