Yep, It’s Real – An All-Female Spin On The Expendables Is Coming

Adi Shankar, producer of The Grey and Dredd, has set Dutch Southern to writing an Expendables-alike project for an all-female star cast.

Several actresses ‘associated with action movies’ are said to be talking about joining up, but Variety doesn’t have any particular names to share as yet.

I think it’s easy to suppose that they’ll have approached Gina Carano, Cynthia Rothrock and Pam Grier… and then maybe on to Michelle Rodriguez, Lucy Lawless, Linda Hamilton, Michelle Yeoh, Milla Jovovich, perhaps even Carrie-Anne Moss, Maggie Q, Uma Thurman, Vivica A. Fox?

I’d be very amused if they get Chloe Moretz in off the back of Hit Girl, but I don’t think for one second it’s going to happen. Zoe Bell would be nice too. Maybe Sarah Michelle Gellar?

I’ve probably missed some names out while playing this daft game. Take over on my behalf, please, just don’t mention Kate Beckinsale. Please.

If this is going to truly be Expendables-styled, most of the players are going to stand on the B or C list (with more further down the alphabet too), which probably means we can look forward to something like Rothrock, Hamilton, Moss and Bell in a team headed up by Carano.

Of course, there’s no reason there to not buy a ticket. Here’s hoping they get a good director and, particularly for this kind of fare, a good second unit too.

Southern made it onto the Black List with another action script a few years back – Hoof Harrington’s Greatest Hits, a hitman yarn with added nostalgia.

Hoof was picked up by Shankar’s company and, by that script’s reputation at least, it looks like we might get something wittier and more esoteric for this Expenda-Belles project than we did from Stallone’s boy’s own pictures.
