NBC are planning a new series set in a so-called “comic book” world, by which I mean there will be “super villains” involved.
According to Deadline, Hench is to be about:
a regular guy who, in order to support his family, gets jobs temping for super villains.
Well, Hench gotta eat.
The creatives on the show last teamed on the US do-over of Prime Suspect. Alexandra Cunningham has written the script and Peter Berg and Sarah Aubrey are producing.
No idea if Berg will direct the pilot, but he has some experience in similar material having directed Hancock and, apparently, having worked on developing a sequel to that film more recently.
Now, does this blurb, mentioning villains plural, suggest a cast of evil recurring characters, perhaps some sort of Evil League, or does it go more towards a “Villain of the week” thing? The difference here would probably tell us quite a lot about the show.
I’ll be interested in seeing how they try to balance the moral ideas here, and how sympathetic they try to make out henchman lead – not to mention by which means.
Hench has a long way to the screen yet, but we’ll keep you posted if anything movies onwards.
