Courtesy of E4’s Misfits online community and a web chat held earlier this evening, I’m now feeling quite well specced up on the show’s next season. There’s a lot changing this year, and so there were a lot of questions asking, in some guise or another, for reassurance that the show won’t suddenly be rubbish. You tell me if this new info puts your mind at rest.
There are three key new characters this year. Suiting up in the familiar orange will be Jess and Finn, with somebody called Alex joining in a recurring, non-jumpsuited role. Later in the series, Abby will come along and creator Howard Overman and producer Matt Strevens, were being a bit cagey about whether or not she’ll end up in a jumpsuit. Close reading of their responses, however, says that she will:
Howard Overman: Three characters will be suiting up.
Okay, maybe not so close. You just need to be able to count.
Abby is to be played by Natasha O’Keefe, Alex will be played by Matt Stokoe.
You can see Karla Crome and Nathan McMullen as Jess and Finn in this new image.
Finn will apparently make for a good double act with Rudy.
And these new characters have families too:
We’ve got sisters, step moms, dads who aren’t dads and dads who are dads.
As for new powers, Overman simply rattled off a list, as well as some other, miscellaneous plot points we can look forward to:
Telekinesis, x-ray vision, a very bad memory, and the power to be pussy whipped… killer rabbits and the four horsemen of the apocalypse and a puppy meets a very tragic demise.
Rudy and Curtis had their ‘romance arcs’ teased, so to speak. Rudy can apparently look forward to:
Some meaningless twisted sex and maybe even real lurve. We also learn just how many people he’s slept with – via another very odd power.
While Curtis is going to get a new love interest:
but she may not be the one…Poor old Curtis.
Seth the power trader is coming back too, and apparently:
he’s more handsome and northern than ever. And he does a little light torture in episode 1.
He could pretty much cut and paste that and use it as a Match.com profile.
And yes, there’s going to be at least one new probation worker, and the first one we’ll meet is:
a scary bastard.
Outside of the main show, we can look forward to some more online minisodes this year, but:
the puppets have taken over and one is called Anal Mary to which there is an accompanying song.
And going even further afield, Overman says we might, somewhere down the line, get to find out more about former Misfits Simon and Alisha:
Not in this series, but who knows what might happen in the future. There is a plan…which is unusual for me.
Another plan is for the US version of Misfits. Perhaps it’s easy to read too much into Overman’s comments on this one, but is it possible that it will be a parallel show, rather than a remake? Something where a potential crossover could occur?
The storm will reach any country which i sell the format to. So it looks like there might be a storm in America soon…
And that’s the meat from the bones of a very generous webchat.
To fill in the blanks, don’t forget our previous stories on the upcoming fourth series. And we will, of course, be keeping a close eye on it things as the show gets back on air.
Let’s end with two more pictures, shall we? Salve for the tired eyes.
