Marc Silvestri To Add To The Free Print Cyber Force Relaunch

Marc Silvestri To Add To The Free Print Cyber Force RelaunchI went for dinner in North Hollywood last night (The Rustic Spoon, try the Pho Gai), a kind of post-San Diego get together with a few friends in the area, before I head back today. I learned a few things I could use… and a few I couldn't.

One thing I learned was in the Kickstarter-funded free Cyber Force comic, there will be a two page story drawn by Marc Silvestri not available in the free digital version. And that the digital version will also be uploaded to torrent and download sites by Top Cow directly, each encouraging the reader to visit their local comic store for the free print version.

I met with a few people at the Big Two this weekend who seemed frankly baffled by Top Cow's move into this area. I pointed out that the biggest French comics publisher uses social funding to produce more esoteric work. And that Marjorie Liu had said that her and Mike Perkins' Marvel all female superhero book was nixed because of the belief that it wouldn't sell, but I find it hard to believe it wouldn't get fully funded in a day if Marvel went that route.

But right now, Top Cow are doing something different and rewarding. How long will the Big Two resist if it is seen to be successful?
