17 Pages For $2.99 – A New DC Price Point?

17 Pages For $2.99 – A New DC Price Point?Ravagers #2, one of the Second Wave of New 52 books from DC, recently published its second issue. But for some there was something missing. It all felt a little… short.

One page count later, and the answer was clear. The book is seventeen pages long, with two pinups added on the end.

DC Comics has made a point of publishing twenty page comic books for $2.99, their so-called Holding The Line initiative, and something that has defined them as a publisher. They also publish $3.99 books, but give the reader a bunch more pages for that price, and usually more than Marvel.

It gives the impression of some editorial interference in the book that saw the story lose certain pages, but without enough time to replace them. It may also have something to do with a new creative team not too familiar with what was expected… or was there originally a back up planned? And will this state of affairs continue… could it even be a shape of things to come?

DC Comics did not respond to emails on this subject.
