DerryWatch: The 2D Derry Comics Festival gets some decent PR in the local press.

No.1 New York Times best-selling author Tony Lee (Dr Who, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies), enthused about the three-day event on social networking sites.

HEROWatch: Static co-creator Robert L Washington III has passed, age 47, after suffering heart attacks. After sufering bouts of homelessness, Washington was being helped by the Hero Initiative, and his last published work was for the Hero anthology from Image last month, talking about the work of the charity.

It's another reminder that the perils of the past, where companies publish books, cartoons and toys featuring characters whose creators live in penury, is still very much with us.

ArchieWatch: As the battle between Silberkeit and Goldwater, CEOs of Archie Comics, is settled, it seems the Goldwater's nieces, whose trust Jon Goldwater represents have declared a plague on both their houses.

Jon Goldwater's three nieces, Lisa, Taylor and Summer Goldwater, initially stood on the sidelines of the court fight. They thought their uncle was acting in their best interest, though their trust hadn't gotten a penny from the company since he became a CEO, another of their lawyers, Jessica S. Rutherford, wrote in court papers filed Wednesday.

But the women decided to involve themselves this winter after becoming suspicious that their uncle was misusing the company's assets — and trying to keep them unaware of it, the papers said.

The nieces also are taking aim at Silberkleit, pointing to their uncle's allegations and saying that she wrongly drew a salary from the company while still working as a teacher.

The settlement, Rutherford wrote, amounts to back-scratching among "two directors who have been stealing from the company, or aiding and abetting each other's theft.
