Open Invitation to Comic Shops for Dealing Cool Contributions

Open Invitation to Comic Shops for Dealing Cool ContributionsWe've dabbled a bit in a retailer feature called Dealing Cool, in which we ask the owners or operators of comic shops in the United Kingdom, United States, and Canada (and I suppose anywhere else in the world, really) to provide feedback for Little Bleeders to read and think about, reflecting the comics market's performance where it counts most — among the racks and at the register. The idea was to follow about twenty or so shops over the course of several months, tracking the ebb and flow of comics retail at many different stores with many different customers/focuses/etc. In time, we'd switch out the participants to get new experiences.

A few great shops have contributed thus far (Pittsburgh Comics, Third Eye Comics, Automattic Comics, and Black Cat Comics), and we thank them very much for their insight. Currently, we'd like to open up an invitation to other retailers, as well. Come one, come all!

If you're an interested retailer, please send me an e-mail at keithdavidsen@bleedingcool.com. I'd love to hear from you, and I'm sure you'd have a lot to offer comic readers and colleagues on Bleeding Cool's global venue.

To give a little structure to the articles and a starting point for retailer feedback, here's a list of questions:

My Shop, Defined

Set the stage for the Bleeding Cool viewer — what's the core of your business? Where are you located, and what's your primary clientele? Would you consider yourself and/or your store as a specialist in a particular product genre or era?

Movers & Shakers

What are the hot items in your store this month? Even more interesting, what would be an item (or items) that surprised you?

Showing Initiative

Was there any particular sales program or push in the past month, and how did it go over? What would you do differently? Any tips for other retailers on strategies they can duplicate elsewhere?

Hype Vs. Reality

Considering sales and customer feedback, how did a particular big-ticket series or event perform at your store?

Guilty Pleasure

What's a favorite pick for your store, something you wholeheartedly endorse as a high quality and entertaining product?

The Downright Strange

Any humorous observations from behind the counter from the past few weeks?

Our only stipulation is that the tone of your articles is a POSITIVE one. Our agenda with Dealing Cool is to strengthen the comic shop community by showing the worldwide online community how truly awesome it is. To do so, let's make sure our tone is an encouraging one!
