Avatar Plug of the Week: Crossed Badlands #5

Avatar Plug of the Week: Crossed Badlands #5It's a big week for Avatar Press. Chalk it up to just the right planetary alignment, or perhaps a mystical ripple in the planet's ley lines, or perhaps simply the whims of the UPS man ("What can Brown do for you?")… Avatar has four titles hitting comic shops today. And they're all awesome. You can trust me, I'm from the internet!

So let's talk about Crossed: Badlands #5, the second chapter in horror legend Jamie Delano's "Homo Superior" story arc.  The previous issue introduced us to three groups of survivors traversing the Florida Everglades: cyclists Greg and Steve, the kayaking jailbait twins Ashlynne and Ashley, and Leon — who is holed up in a militant compound / meth lab run by his racist father.  If an outbreak of unstoppable madness really did sweep through the world, you couldn't imagine a worse environment to be stuck in.  The oppressive humidity, the deadly gators, tribes of Crossed berserkers… it's the perfect setting for horror.

In issue #5, Delano and artist Leandro Rizzo reveal some rather disturbing recent history for his damaged heroine Steve, as well as a daring, bloody Crossed raid on the militant compound.  Our intrepid heroes are on a collision course through the Florida swamps, and this is just the beginning of the terror…
