The internet is full of tributes to Jean Giraud, who died this morning. Here are just a few.

Tributes To Moebius – From Beginning To End To Back Again

I was a working writer, the money that came in fed my family, and although I looked with envy on the art that was being made, I did not buy any of it.

Except for one small painting. A Moebius study of Death. It cost me as much as I was paid to write an issue of Sandman, and I bought it without a qualm.

He then asked if I drew, which I confirmed was the case, and mentioned my linework was especially influenced in a visual sense by George Herriman.

"Krazy Kat!" he said. "I love Krazy Kat!"

We talked about Herriman for a good five minutes, then he urged me to come to his signing within the next hour. I did so, picking up all the volumes of Inside Moebius and he generously sketched in the first. He was so generous with his time and so enthusiastic with his words and demeanor.

I came back from this trip deciding it was time I made the transition to becoming a writer. Two years later, I write full time.

I met Jean Giraud at COMIC CON about 17-18 years ago.   It was before AintItCool, I was just a rotund geek wandering Comic Con with my sketch book.   I'd just ran into Jack Kirby, who drew me a quick happy face when I recognized Jean Giraud.   I quietly walked up to him and asked if he would do a quick sketch for me.   He looked at me and said, "You know, I'm not Moebius."  and I responded, "Moebius is a dream, you're Jean Giraud."  He smiled and drew a full page sketch that became one of the centerpieces of that particular sketchbook.

Moebius isn't gone. He's just looped back to the beginning to start over. He is, and will be, forever.
