I love it when a hardworking character like Aquaman gets his chance in the spotlight every now and then. Last time this came up, we talked about how important the character was during a long stretch of DC's formative years. But even then, it took them quite awhile to give him a star turn — he'd had monthly stories in comics for nearly 20 years before they gave him a cover in 1961. He's had many other key moments since then, and it looks like he's getting another major moment now thanks to the rising tide of the New 52.

I understand that once again, DC have a lock down on the top ten of comics distributed in North American comic shops, with the sixth issues of Justice League, Batman, Action Comics, Detective Comics, Green Lantern, Batman: The Dark Knight, Superman, Flash, Aquaman and Batman & Robin. The only difference from January 2012 is that Aquaman is now ahead of Batman & Robin.

John Cusack On The Politics Of Poe And Poetry, The Fascism Of 300 And Sequels

James McTeigue's The Raven is released in UK cinemas this Friday. It's a murder mystery caper, verging on a modern slasher film, and features John Cusack as a fictional Edgar Allen Poe, getting all caught up in the police investigation of some perverse copycat murders borrowed from his fictions.
