Jason Segel Won't Be On The Writing Team For The Muppets Sequel

Jason Segel Won't Be On The Writing Team For The Muppets Sequel

Here's some good news and some bad news, so let's start with the good news. Director James Bobin and co-writer Nicholas Stoller of The Muppets have signed a deal to pen a sequel, unsurprising perhaps considering that the movie has already grossed over $150 million worldwide and received widespread critical acclaim.

However, if you're a fan of Jason Segel's writing then we're sorry to report that according to Vulture, the writer/actor is going to be too busy to help write the sequel with Stoller and Bobin. Between promoting Five Year Engagement, work on Knocked Up sequel This Is 40 and presumably another season of How I Met Your Mother, there's just no time left in the day to do proper justice to a Muppets sequel.

The Muppets was made in large part due to Segel's desire to revive his favourite childhood characters for the big screen. He and Stoller co-wrote the script and pitched it to Disney in 2008, and within three years it was on our screens. Even if he won't be putting pen to paper for the sequel, he'll always be an important part of the Muppet family.

On a lighter note, apparently there is still a chance that Segel will join the cast again once more if the sequel goes ahead. So don't look so sad, everybody. Remember…
