Yes, Britain, You Can Buy Lord Of The Jungle #2 Today

Just popped into Orbital Comics for my weekly stash. And yes, I noted that Lord Of The Jungle #2 was on sale.

Last week, the family company founded by Edgar Rice Burroughs launched a law suit against Dynamite Entertainment over their publication of Warlord Of Mars, Dejah Thoris and Lord Of The Jungle comic books, with a specific note to the distrubution of comics adapting work still in copyright in the UK. Such as the Lord Of The Jungle comic adapting the original Tarzan stories.

Usually in such circumstances, Diamond Comic Distributors plays safe and suspends the distribution of such titles. Indeed, that's what they did over the Devil's Due Hack/Slash comic that featured Re-Animator, licensed from the film rights. Nick Barrucci of Dynamite had trademarked Re-Animator for comic books as Re-Animator LLC, based on the original HP Lovecraft story now in public domain, sent a cease and desist letter, and although Devil's Due still published the books without any legal consequences, Diamond refused to distribute them.

Last week the Dejah Thoris trade shipped to the UK, but some suspected that could have been already in motion before the lawsuit. That's not the case this week, with Lord Of The Jungle #2. Diamond have made the decision to stand behind Dynamite in this lawsuit.

Either this is a bold and welcome move for Diamond, supporting such work. Or Nick Burrucci knows which Baltimore strings to pluck.

Neither Diamond nor Nick would comment on this story.
