We’ve heard all the rumours – heck, we’ve passed most of them on to you ourselves – but even here, in the imaginary but still somewhat SHIELD-like Bleeding Cool headquarters, we’re not entirely sure what’s going on in regards to meanie, baddy villain types in Joss Whedon‘s The Avengers.
But we’re certainly a whole lot more sure now that Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios overseer, has set the record straight regarding a few, much buzzed-about notions. Turn back now or crash into spoiler talk – his comments are a kind of anti-spoiler, if you like.
Feige was talking to Empire magazine. Here’s a couple of excerpts from their piece:
Who said they were aliens?” he teases. Beings from the Nine Realms, then, ventures Empire? “Closer…It’s not Skrulls, I’ve been clear about that. Beyond that, we want to hide it. The identity of the alien race is not impactful. It exists in the comic books, but we’re not setting up the Kree-Skrull war or anything like that.”
“Was Skull vaporised at the end of the movie, or thrust into another realm?” asks Feige. “That remains to be seen. It would be fun to see Skull in future, but he’s not in this one.”
So – officially no Red Skull and no Skrull either. Kree, then? But would that actually be any closer to the guess of “Beings from the Nine Realms”?
I’m out of ideas.
The full article has more quotes about the picture from Feige, and lots of fun stuff from Joss Whedon too. The magazine will be on shelves later this week. The various images above and below show the variant covers that will be available.
