Sony Confirm The Girl Who Played With Fire Is Going Ahead Despite Dragon Tattoo's Underperformance

Sony Confirm The Girl Who Played With Fire Is Going Ahead Despite Dragon Tattoo's UnderperformanceDavid Fincher's adaptation of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo may not have performed as well as hoped, but Sony Pictures co-chairman Amy Pascal insists that the film is far from a flop, and that a sequel is still planned. Pascal spoke to Entertainment Weekly, saying:

"[Dragon Tattoo] continues to do strong business and nothing has changed with respect to development of the next book."

Many considered the film to have underperformed after grossing only $60 million in the US since its mid-December release, but both critics and audiences alike are praising the film. In terms of box office performance, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo seems to be a slow burner; it continues to draw in an audience through word of mouth and positive reviews and is predicted to reach the $100 million mark in cinemas and will most likely build upon that with DVD sales.

It's easy to see why Sony Pictures are unshaken in their decision to produce a sequel. Lead actors Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara have already signed up for two more films, but it remains to be seen whether David Fincher will return to the franchise.
