Next Wednesday, Boom have a new comic by Michael Alan Nelson called Outcast hitting the stands. A barbarian book where a warrior-king is slain in battle by a necromancer who raises him from the dead and makes him his thrall. The king breaks the necromancer's hold and goes on a quest to reclaim his soul. Zombie Conan.

Valiant Makes Boom! Change The Title Of OutcastYou know, the usual.

Except it's not called Outcast any more.

Because they were contacted by Valiant Entertainment (see, I told you they were coming back) to object to the title of the book.

And that Valiant Entertainment hold trademark rights on that title, based on an one-shot from sixteen years ago called The Outcast.

No, me neither.

I contacted Valiant, whose representative told me "We are big fans of Boom! and think the world of their comics. However, we currently have the trademark to Outcast, just like Marvel does for X-Men or DC does Batman."

Well, looks like Boom! blinked and have renamed the book Valent The Outcast. And thankfully were able to do so before the book shipped.

Probably a better title as well, I mean would Conan The Barbarian be as well remembered if it were just called Barbarian?

The first issue ships next week for a dollar, with a heady array of cover artists, Liam Sharp, Trevor Hairsine, Ale Garza and Chad Hardin. Obviously with a different header.
