Ice Age Is On Ice … And Also On The Stage In Ice Age Live! A Mammoth Adventure

A press release landed in the Bleeding Cool pigeon hole this morning (you might say a little birdie told us! haha … ha) concerning an adaptation of the enormously successful animated film series Ice Age into a stage production.

The show is being taken on the road by Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products and Stage Entertainment Touring Productions, premiering at the Wembley Arena in London on November 12th next year, before embarking on a five year tour in 30 different countires around the world. It will be, quoth the blogger:

The first show of its kind to combine exceptional ice skating, aerial arts, puppetry and film.

Is anyone else having Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark flashbacks?

A falling Spidey is one thing, but I wouldn't want to be in the audience when two aerial stuntman operating a mammoth costume like a pantomime horse come loose of their wires and plummet into the orchestra pit.

It's going to be a musical, of course, with music and lyrics by Ella Louise Allaire and Martin Lord Ferguson of Cirque du Soleil. It's being directed by Cirque du Soleil veteran Guy Caron, and the costumes are being designed by, you guessed it, Cirque du Soleil costumier Michael Curry.

Here's some cut-and-paste, insert-production-title-here quotes about it from some CEOs and executives, who don't really seem able to tell us much about the show other than the fact that it's going to be really, really awesome and we should all go and see it.

"This is a big step in the development of our company and perfectly fits our ambition to produce the best arena shows for a worldwide audience, working with the most professional partners. We are very excited about this project," said Caspar Gerwe , CEO of Stage Entertainment Touring Productions.

Robert Marick , Executive Vice President of Fox Consumer Products added, "Stage Entertainment is raising the bar in terms of licensed live productions and their expertise on the world stage is the perfect fit for this international blockbuster. Its creation furthers our commitment to bringing the very best in live entertainment to fans and we couldn't think of a better partner to blaze this new frontier with than Stage Entertainment."

"We are very thrilled to work with such a strong creative team to ensure top class family entertainment in arenas around the world," said Henk Kivits , CEO of Stage Entertainment.

Jeffrey Godsick , President of Fox Consumer Products added, "Ice Age Live! A Mammoth Adventure is going to be a truly groundbreaking, live entertainment experience that will amaze and delight not just fans of the Ice Age franchise, but anyone seeking a truly unique live stage show."

Joop van den Ende , President and Founder of Stage Entertainment commented, "I am very proud to be associated with Twentieth Century Fox. We are delighted to bring the famous Ice Age characters to life."

Don't believe how cut-and-paste they are? Here's some quotes from another press release we received today.*

Jerry Codpiece, President of Foxed Computer Produce added, Big Tits Zombie Live! Boobs On Ice** is going to be a truly groundbreaking, live entertainment experience that will amaze and delight not just fans of the Big Tits Zombie franchise, but anyone seeking a truly unique live stage show."

Jeep von Engine, President and Founder of Staged Entertainment commented, "I am very proud to be associated with Thirteenth Century Fix. We are delighted to bring the famous Big Tits Zombie characters to life."

In all seriousness, I'm quite looking forward to seeing how this (Ice Age, not Tits) production turns out, since we've actually seen children's animated films successfully transferred to the stage in the past. If done right this could prove as popular as The Lion King, which is still running now at the Lyceum Theatre in London.

*Names changed because Bleeding Cool can't afford to be sued.

**Big Tits Zombie is a real film, though admittedly not a very good one. And not real stage show. Yet.
