- Paramount would like to shoot Transformers 4 and 5 at once, to save on costs
- Jason Statham has been mentioned as a potential star by “sources close to the production”
Crazy. Both of those seem like wild ideas to me.
Michael Bay, say Variety‘s up-to-the-minute piece, is interested in coming back to direct, though he would be keen to shoot his passion project Pain and Gain first. That one’s a crime thriller set in the world of bodybuilding and people have previously compared its intended style to that of Tarantino.
If the Paramount plan comes off, the Transformers diptych would start shooting late next year or early in 2013. Plenty of time for Pain and Gain before then, I’m sure. And plenty of time to lock in Jason Statham or some other new star – LaBeouf doesn’t want to come back, I’m not sure I want him to come back and if Paramount can sign somebody to a cheaper contract, they won’t want him back either.
So, not only are we not past the age of Autobot and Decepticon Bayhem,* we’re not even three quarters of the way out of the woods.
*By which I mean he can’t shoot or edit action for toffee and it’s just a total mess.
