It’s official: the fairy tale adaptation is, like, so hot right now. Not only are we facing two productions of Snow White from Universal Pictures and Relativity Media, we’re also in for yet another adaptation of Beauty and the Beast.
Daniel Barnz’s bland tweeny Twilight-esque modern retelling Beastly is barely cold in its extremely shallow grave but already Guillermo Del Torro is planning another adaptation with Harry Potter star Emma Watson as the leading lady. In an interview with Coming Soon, producer Denise Di Novi revealed that she’ll be working on the project with Del Toro, but those three names are the only real details we have so far.
So before any announcements are made, please submit your suggestions for who should play the beast this time, and you lose points if you forget the source material and cast a chiseled Hollywood hunk as the leading man in order to bring in the squealing under-14 girl crowd. My choices are as follows.
- Rip Torn
- Michael Clarke Duncan’s voice
- Robbie Coltrane (to please the weirder brand of Harry Potter fanfiction writers)
- Mr. Blobby
I expect my career as casting director to begin any day now.
