Aaaaaaaaand cue “viral video” jokes aplenty, because the full trailer for Steven Soderbergh’s Contagion is out.
Be warned: there’s something like a big spoiler in there. Perhaps bigger than normal – or something small and relatively inconsequential, if not downright inevitable. Depends on how you slice it.
It’s an obvious plot beat to me. And besides, I could care less about spoiler exposure. If Warner Bros. offered me the last twenty minutes of the film to preview right now, I’d sit and watch it, the rest of the film unseen.
Sooner or later I’m going to have seen the film, and every viewing will be a re-viewing and if it’s a good film, the familiarity won’t matter one jot. I guess I’m less interested in the “What’s going to happen?” suspense of a narrative than I am in seeing how that has been crafted. The first screening of a film is not very often a “favourite”, an experience I can’t get back.
Here’s a wonky embed, that I’ll replace in due course. You may prefer to see the trailer at Apple, in far better quality.
Shame that last shot repeats some of the baloney Soderbergh pulled in his first Che movie. Down with the POV shots, man. They’re silly and destructive and tragically artificial.
