Fox Newspaper Gives Warners’ Green Lantern One Star

"Die, Rupert Murdoch, die!"

The British newspapers published by News Group Newspapers of News International, itself a subsidiary of Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation, who own Twentieth Century Fox, was very kind to X-Men First Class, as Private Eye recently pointed out, with uncritical star interview after interview.

For Warners’ upcoming Green Lantern movie, they have been less kind. While the buzz on the floor is that despite the hype, it’s a rather mediocre movie, the News Of The World gave it the lowest grade possible.

3 stars

With quotes such as “this superhero flick, based on the popular DC Comics series, is two finger-drumming hours of puffed-up, prancing tripe, that couldn’t have been any more irritating if the lead role was played by that bellowing Go Compare fatso.”

And “the film’s a five-way pile up of ropey plotting, terrible editing, pompous dialogue, pointless 3D and atrocious effects, and it feels like it goes on forever.”

Before going on a rant about  the size of the character’s foreheads. Well, they did see it in 3D, that kind of thing might stick out.

There’s no doubt that Green Lantern is not going to be a critical success. But is it really quite that bad? Or is it the usual studio knockabout that means we’re at the start of the silly season…
