Friday Runaround – Anchovies, Friends, Beer And Grandchildren

"This thing I was taught to call Life is one unlikely ride. If I believe, then I must believe that I am a Spirit having a human  experience. I think Spirits probably have it made; so why the hell would one choose to have a human experience? Spirits must lack something. Perhaps it's anchovies or friends or beer or grandchildren." – Jeffrey Catherine Jones, 1944-2011.

Titled "True Blood: The French Quarter," the new, six-issue series hits shelves in August and will follow Sookie and vampire Eric Northman as they travel to New Orleans in order to track down a killer whom Eric and his maker, Godric, thought they killed centuries ago. With Eric and Sookie paired up, you can bet Bill Compton's not far behind, but he'll have his hands full investigating a local Hep-D outbreak. Debuting in August, the new series by original Turtles co-creator Kevin Eastman, co-writer Tom Waltz and artist Dan Duncan sets out to reimagine the original TMNT in a contemporary setting. Rather than serve as a port for Nickelodeon's upcoming animated continuity, the 32-page, full-color comics will establish a fresh universe populated by both new and classic characters. What's more, in addition to co-writing, Eastman will contribute page layouts and variant covers alongside artists such as Sam Keith and Walt Simonson.

The 5,000 Hats Of Jack Kirby

Here's a modest and demure little number Jack whipped up for Odin sometime in between Frost Giant War I and Frost Giant War II. This classic toque combines elements of primal design of the gods of the ancient Mayans and Aztecs (Mrs. Odin had them over for dinner on Wednesday nights, generally right before bowling) and the galactic legend of that renowned, nay, infamous asparagus-cooker, the Phoenix. The fact that on the morning he designed the hat, Jack had for breakfast a bowl of Kellogg's Corn Flakes, is probably mere coincidence.

Marvel's "Death of Spider-Man" Crossover – That's It?

Now that we're more than halfway in, is it fair to call Death of Spider-Man the worst crossover since the "red skies" Crisis books? Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining about the stories told in either Ultimate Spider-Man and Ultimate Comics Ultimate Avengers vs. New Ultimates (I love that title), just the "crossover" part of the proceedings.
