Tuesday Trending Topics: Will #Flashpoint Change The World Today?

I'd been giving some thought as to what this headline was going to be ever since I saw all the retailer talk about Flashpoint #1 on twitter #comicmarket this evening — and in the meantime DC made a headline up for me with a new promo image and a short Geoff Johns quote: "Today, the world changes."

Thing is, many of the retailers who've already read this comic might agree with him. There was quite a bit of optimism in the air tonight regarding this book among people who make it their business to gauge how their customers are going to react to these things. Quick reorders were placed by many. @larryscomics proclaimed, already rather famously, that Flashpoint #1 contains "the holy shit moment that #comicmarket has been waiting for in 2011".

Is he right? We'll all know in a few hours, but in the meantime, DC has dropped one last appetizer on us:

Disney Tells Marvel UK, No More Originated Content

For the last few years, Panini/Marvel UK has been publishing a number of Marvel superhero titles. They publish a number of reprints for the young boy market in the UK, with considerabvle penetration into the news stand market where they successfully compete with Titan's Batman and Rebellion's 2000AD.

So That Was Free Comic Book Day. Now What?

One of the bugbears amongst some comic retailers over Free Comic Book Day is that's the only time they see certain people who turn up, take a stack of free comics and then leave. But, considering the flood of people through the doors of comic shops worldwide this past Saturday, just how do you keep their interest?

Trending Topics on #comicmarket Tuesday

#comicmarket is an ongoing but mostly tuesday twitter hashtag for comic retailers, pros, and interested fans. Talk today was virtually all about Flashpoint, to the point that there's little doubt what's going to be discussed the rest of the week. On the business side, an interesting discussion surfaced about the need for a Fall or Winter industry event to compliment Free Comic Book Day. Some have suggested building out 24 Hour Comic Book Day, while others are discussing a sort a pre-Christmas push in the mold of Black Friday. Perhaps a Full-Color Friday, if you will. Follow all the talk on that and other inside-baseball scuttlebutt right here.
