Twelve Years Experience #3 by Joel Ronson – A Null Hypothesis

A hit at the Kapow comic convention in London, Joel Ronson is a twelve year old young man who loves comic books. And wants to let other people in on it.

I always find it a little bit strange when I see films that have been adapted from comic books. For instance, last night I saw Thor and it was fantastic but I had to hold myself back from blurting out "The Rainbow Bridge doesn't look like that!" and "Thor talks in a medieval way! Why isn't he doing that now!?" My opinion is that even though comic-films can be fantastic, the film can never beat the comic it has come from.

Oh yes, the reason a column wasn't published last week was because I was on holiday. Now back to talking about comics.

Talking about my holiday, I had a big dilemma during it. I was reading Fear Itself Book One and there was a speech bubble I didn't understand. It said something about this guy's father having to defend the prize fortress null was built around. Is the fortress called Fortress Null? I don't know! Is Null a place that is built around the fortress? I don't know! So here is the dilemma, do I keep on reading with the knowledge of being ignorant to this speech bubble or do I ask the family if they understand it? I have no idea what you would choose (I am hinting that you could tell me in a comment) but I choose the latter… They don't know either! And then it was time for lunch.

Ok, I think it is time for my public apology to Superman. I take back everything I said in my last column. I got converted by a Superman comic I read on the plane. Unfortunately I left it in the hotel so I am not completely sure what one it was but I am around 97% sure it was issue 707. Ooh, if I had a penny for every time I said "what a great comic" after reading it I would have about 10p which would buy me a comic at Orbital!

I also read issue 21 of Batman & Robin on holiday. I loved it. It was part two of Dark Knight vs. White Knight and how could I resist buying it after loving part one so much? Batman & Robin is the best Batman series of the 21st century in my opinion. I have always loved Batman & Robin. When I was really young I used to watch the old Batman & Robin T.V show so I have had a connection to them ever since I was young. You know, in my opinion Batman & Robin is the best thing that has ever come out of DC. And I will end the column on that massive statement.
