Kate Atherton writes for Bleeding Cool:
Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are teaming up again for The Trade. This film tells the tale of the great Yankee scandal of the early 70s when pitchers Mike Kekich and Fritz Peterson were caught swapping wives. The script is written by Ben and Casey Affleck, while Ben and Matt are expected to play Kekich and Peterson.
The New York Post reports that candidates for the swapped wives include Naomi Watts, Rachel Weisz and Rebecca Hall.*
However, a spanner in the works comes from Kekich himself who is trying to block the film. Considering the delicate subject of the movie, which ended up with his wife marrying Peterson, this is not too surprising. However, above and beyond this, Ben Affleck is a well-known Red Sox fan. Affleck is reported to have said:
I've come to have a little more respect for the Yankees. There are some of those guys . . . that look like good guys . . . But as an institution? Disdain. Contempt.
The Yankees have decided not to help out on this occasion.
*Editor's note: There's a joke that basically writes itself. So I'm not going to help it along. Anyway – I wonder if there was ever any such thing as husband swapping, where the women were the initiators? Or is this a uniquely male… erm… exercise?
