Daily Mail Wrong About Kick-Ass 2 (In Different Way To Kick-Ass 1)

I yesterday ran a report that quoted The Daily Mail, which is a dicey business at the best of times. Here’s what I said:

In a fully unnecessary and narrow-minded article on the subject Jane Goldman’s home life in the Mail today there came the following two references to Kick-Ass 2:

She has now written two films which are currently in production; the latest X Men film and thriller The Woman In Black. She’s also working on the Kick-Ass sequel.

She is currently writing the sequel to her controversial film Kick-Ass after becoming something of a Hollywood darling and regularly writes from her bed.

I write from bed too, actually. I mean… why not? It’s comfy, and in a usually quiet place. It’s probably where I write at my happiest.

I think The Mail are at least making a plausible claim, and I see no reason to not take it on face value for now. I’d imagine Kick-Ass 2 would have to be Matthew Vaughn’s next movie after X-Men: First Class, at least if he wants the same cast at similar playing ages.

So, here comes our reason to not take the Mail’s claim on face value – Jane Goldman herself. She has tonight Tweeted the following:

Saw a few erroneous reports today that I’m currently writing Kick Ass 2 script – sorry if anyone’s disappointed, but not true. Currently writing for 2 other projects, then on to lovely Matthew V’s next thing (right now, looks unlikely to be KA2) when X-Men post-prod’ ends.

I’ve only seen the one erroneous report, that being the Mail’s initial claim, but knowing how bad, low-standard blogging works, I wouldn’t be surprised if several online outlets were claiming “Jane Goldman Writing Kick-Ass 2” as a wobble-free fact.

Call me cagey for having a “?” in the headline of my original story but it was there for a reason.
