Doctor Who Changes Appearance…

When Richard Piers Rayner was announced as the artist on a three issue arc on IDW's new Doctor Who series featuring the likeness of Matt Smith, a few eyebrows were raised.

Piers Rayner is known for his absolutely gorgeous illustrated style, somewhere between Michael Zulli and Charles Vess, with a real savage edge when needed. From Swamp Thing to Road To Perdition, his work excels.

But on a monthly book? Even a three issue arc? It's like expecting All Star Superman not to have been late.

Now IDW Chris Ryall has announced that one issue in, they they need a fill in artist. Although Raynor was listed in the solicitations, Tim Hamilton will now draw #3, the second issue of the arc, issue while, presumably, Richard cracks on with the last issue.

Of course, the original artist for this arc announced last year was Matt Smith. Matthew Dow Smith that is. Who had drawn the final Tenth Doctor story for IDW.

If he'd continued as initially planned, it would probably be finished by now…

Here's a first look at Tim's work on Doctor Who #3. Chris mentions Spring Heeled Jack, but it looks more like Jack The Ripper to me. Scheduled for publication next month.
