Three Conventions, Three Countries, One Long Weekend

1) This weekend, the MCM Expo 2010 in London at the ExCel Convention Centre in the Docklands. The biggest comics convention in Britain with an attendance of 30,000.  Preview afternoon from 2pm today followed by the Eagle Awards, one of the oldest comic industry awards around. I'll be there, don't be a stranger. Big comics guests include Chris Claremont, Bernard Chang, and every British comic creator in commuting distance of London. Marvel UK, Markosia and other bigger British comics publishers will also be in attendance.

2) LUCCA. As big as MCM Expo is for London, LUCCA puts all of that in a cocked hat with 85,000 attendees. I want to go. One of Europes bigger conventions, this Italian show is attended by all the major European and Japanese publishers, as its spreads itself around the town of Lucca. It starts today and it is… massive!

3) And in California, there's the Long Beach Comic Con. Avatar will be there, as the banners on this site will attest. As well as the likes of Top Cow, Boom, IDW and Image Comics. Guests include Tim Bradstreet, J Scott Campbell, Stan Lee, Tim Sale, Mark Waid and Bernie Wrightson. And basically any other creator on the West Coast with a free afternoon. Doors open in a few hours…
