FilipinoWatch: Their artists draw many of our most successful comic books. But is the comics industry of the Philippines in trouble? The AFP thinks so;

Comic books that dominated the Philippine publishing industry just a couple of decades ago are now largely relegated to photocopied titles sold in a few specialty stores and at conventions, lamented veteran artist Rico Rival.

"There are still a lot of good Filipino artists. They just don't have an outlet anymore. They just photocopy their own works," said Rival who has worked for local publications as well as US comic and animation companies.

'RED' Proves Action-Comedies Needn't be Dumb to be Fun

In a season usually reserved for aspiring Oscar contenders, along comes director Robert Schwentke's RED, unabashedly thumbing its nose not only at magniloquent poseurs, but also at this summer's action flicks. The film nails its requisite genre so accurately, in fact, that one almost wishes the filmmakers had pushed the envelope a little bit further, elevating this action-comedy from merely strong to truly herculean. Still, leaving audiences wanting more isn't necessarily a bad thing.
