Animation Update: Napolen Dynamite TV Toon, How To Train Your Dragon 2, Allen Gregory

The original casts of Napoleon Dynamite and How To Train Your Dragon have been engaged for their respective animated sequels.

Fox have ordered six episodes of a Dynamite toon, say The Hollywood Reporter. There’s little information, but this picture reveals the look of the characters nicely.

Meanwhile, Jay Baruchel, Craig Ferguson, America Ferrera, Jonah Hill, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, T.J. Miller and Kristen Wiig have all signed on to reprise their roles in the second How To Train Your Dragon picture. This one is being written and directed by Dean DeBlois who co-directed last time and made a pair of rather unexpected Sigur Ros and Jonsi music documentaries. Variety say the next Dragon picture is slated for a 2013 release, amidst a rather chronic sounding log-jam of Dreamworks animations.

Dragon 2 not the only animated project Jonah Hill has on the cards. Go back to the THR story with the Napoleon Dynamite reveal and you’ll see that Fox have also ordered seven episodes (one more than with Dynamite – why? I’m thinking it’s a cost thing) of something called Allen Gregory. Here’s how they describe it:

From Superbad star Jonah Hill and Yes Man scribes Andrew Mogel and Jarrad Paul. Gregory is about the world’s most celebrated seven-year-old embarking on the greatest challenge of his life: attending elementary school with regular kids.

Are we to infer that Hill will be voicing Gregory? I’ll take that bet.
