Tomorrow Is Read Comics In Public Day

Tomorrow Is Read Comics In Public DayIn the morning I will be taking the bus to the swimming baths with my girls. On the way I will be reading Terry Wiley's Verity Fair tucked inside Posy Simmond's Tamara Drewe. Eve will have an issue of Glister by Andi Watson, while Alice will have a copy of Tony Lee and Paul Grist's Doctor Who. After a big swim and splash around (no comics in the pool, don't be daft) we'll read some more in the cafe having some apple and juice before heading to the playground. So I can read Glister. Maybe we'll go to the Pumphouse later to see Dave McKean art.

Tomorrow is Read Comics In Public Day. A day for reading comics in public. With family, with friends, with the world.

I mean it's not like people don't. But some are embarrassed. Some feel exposed. Some just don;t like to do it in front of other people. But come on, this is not National Masturbation Day (that's next week). This is comics. Which is 60% less embarrassing to read in public.

And there are events all over the place.

Whether you're meeting up for a coffee in a San Diego Starbucks, a library in Fairbanks Alaska, the George Washington statue in New York Square, the Mana bar in Brisbane Australia, and many more. Nothing in London yet, so I'm calling it. The 85 bus into Kingston passing through Kingston Vale at around 10.30am.

Wherever you are, in groups or on your own, read a comic in public. And post evidence on the comments!

There is of course no such event in Japan, France, Korea, Belgium, Sweden, Italy or Spain –  they do it every day!

Thank you Daily Cross Hatch.
