The Return Of Lady Death – For Free

Avatar have been handing out free copies of Lady Death Premiere at San Diego and Wizard World Chicago these past few weeks. But now it's time for everybody to get copies.

Lady Death Premiere is a comic that retailers order in batches of fifty (it costs them $15 a pack, but they do get a 1-in-50 retailer variant for their pains), single copies (30 cents each) or $45 for 150 copies (with three 1-50 retailer variants, plus Chicago and San Diego exclusive variants on top). Subsidised by the publisher, it's not free for retailers as it is for customers, but it is intended that retailers will be able to sell the variant editions to help their costs.

It features a new original twelve page colour story to set up a new Lady Death story which will continue in December's Lady Death #0 before continuing monthly with #1 in January. Lady Death was the poster child for bad girl comics and publisher Chaos! Comics in the nineties at the height of the boom, then inevitable bust that saw the company collapse.

But the character still has a loyal fanbase. And now she's back, from Boundless – a sister publisher to Bleeding Cool's owners, Avatar Press.

In Lady Death Premiere, the book introduces a new villain, Death Queen who proceeds to kick Lady Death's ass, rob her of all knowledge about herself and sentence her to earth, circa 1351 AD.

Then in #0, readers get to meet who Lady Death has become: Illadra, the dagger wielding thief. Can Illandra figure out who she is and ascend back into control of The Underlands or will she succumb to a barrage of dark dwelling evil? In #1, #2 and onward Boundless answers those questions (and poses a bunch more).
I understand the creative team of Lady Death creator Brian Pulido, Mike Wolfer and Marcelo Mueller have completed the seventh issue, so they are well ahead keeping a monthly schedule on this revival.
