Paul Cornell Exposes Great British Comics Industry Secret

I can't believe he did it. I really can't believe he did it. This is like exposing the inner secrets of the Illuminati or the lizard royal family's diet or exactly where the Popbitch offices are now. But in a preview for Knight And Squire, his new DC series, Paul Cornell has a scene were around a hundred British superheroes meet up in a pub. Like so.

All very well and good you might think. Ho ho ho and all that. But then he goes and does this.

Paul Cornell Exposes Great British Comics Industry Secret

My gods! This is a clear reference to the habit of comic book creators, retailers and hangers on, under the sobriequet of "Troopers" to meet, indeed, on the first Thursday of every month for drinks at a certain pub. Indeed Paul Cornell has been known to grace our presence on the odd occasion and was there (briefly) last month, persuaded to have one drink by Tony Lee after they'd been out for a curry.

And now this occasional interloper has threatened to expose our existence to the world through this supercharacter allegory.

I suppose he may be forgiven for getting a reference to ZX Spectrum genre-altering game Manic Miner, the character Two Ton Ted From Teddington straught out of the Benny Hill song Ernie, and turning the beer Bishop's Finger into Bishop's Ring, cricket, Julian and Sandy from Round The Horne, oh I can feel a glossary coming on.

Okay, Paul, you're forgiven. I suppose you didn't actually name the place…
