Thursday Runaround – It Kept Breaking Down…

Thursday Runaround – It Kept Breaking Down…NewsWatch: Steve Bissette writes about the murder of friend Steve Perry and the arrest of Perry's flatmate. He also speculates as to the motive and means.

It kept breaking down… Could it be Steve's van broke down with Davis driving Steve's body around with just Steve's arm left to dispose of?… In all accounts since mid-May, it sounds like Davis was driving the same van that kept breaking down on Steve — something Steve cited with increasing frustration and bitterness in email after email in the weeks before his disappearance. That fucking van…may have made all the difference in the world.

The van was bought with money from Nat Gertler of About Comics, who is to publish Perry and Paul Chadwick's Salimba with new material later this year.

LibraryWatch: Rich Johnson writes about his fight to get comics into libraries. It is very possible that Gary Groth will be on hand later to mock Rich's satisfaction as seeing a teenager reading a copy of Batman: Knightfall Part One: Broken Bat with a library stamp on the subway, as some personal kind of validation, but not me. I'm above that kind of thing.

TableWatch: Tom Zahler of Love And Capes writes about running a small table at San Diego for USA Today.

I have the best job in the world. I write and draw comics. Part of doing that is not just making the book, but selling it. That's fine. I think I've got a great one, and I really do think you'll like it. It's fun, and I want to share it. Selling's not a bad thing if you mean it.

The FlickCast also ask the same of Girls Drawin' Girls creator Melody Severns

I have gotten to the point where I have gotten too busy working the booth to go to panels anymore, which is a shame, because the geek in me always hopes that I'll go to the 'Lost' panel and Sawyer will be there, we'll meet eyes and fall madly in love.  Either that or I wander away from the booth into the 'True Blood' panel to find only an empty auditorium and Eric and I.  A girl can dream, a girl can dream…haha!

ForgetTheArtistWatch: Deadline reports how Summit are putting Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren and Warren Ellis on the same stage to present footage from Red. Have Deadline or have Summit forgotten Cully Hamner?

PanelWatch: The Thursday programming listing for San Diego goes up later today. Well, I can exclusively reveal that the Tripwire Panel will be at Room 3 at 10.30am on the Thursday. And hopefully I'll be on it. And the SFX: Best of The British panel with the likes of Kieran Gillan, Paul Cornell, China Mieville, Pat Mills, Dan Abnett and Toby Whithouse will be at 5pm in Room 5AB. But no, I won't be on that one. Bastards.

VarsityWatch: Missouri State University is launching a graphic novel course through their English department. Four days long, in August, with an appearance by Matt Kindt.
