SCOOP: San Diego 2010 – Top Shelf Comix Debuts
Top Shelf have a batch of new books making their first appearances at the San Diego Comic Con.
AX: A COLLECTION OF ALTERNATIVE MANGA edited by Sean Michael Wilson (who is flying into San Diego from Japan to debut it!). It's 400 pages long folk, and likely to blow open your collective mind regarding what manga is and can be. Possibly my main purchase of the convention. Possibly also the heaviest.
THE PLAYWRIGHT by Eddie Campbell and Daren White, making its American debut. I have my UK copy here and it's a beaut. I really should Numbercrunch it, I believe the figures will be very favourable.
Then there's BB WOLF AND THE 3 LPS by JD Arnold and Rich Koslowski both on hand to sign copies. It seems to be very much a thematic sequel to Rich's Three Fingers, telling harsh and unpleasant stories using cartoon characters.
FINGERPRINTS by Will Dinski won the big mini-comix award last year, and has been rewarded with a hardcover volume for this cosmetic surgery romp.
And James Kochalka will be on hand to sign his new new books, JOHNNY BOO (BOOK 4): THE MEAN LITTLE BOY and DRAGON PUNCHER (BOOK 1) both making their San Diego debut.
Top Chelf will also have Kathryn and Stuart Immonen to promote their Top Shelf title Moving Pictures, as well as DC exclusive Jeff Lemire (well negotiated there), Surrogates creators Robert Venditti and Brett Weldele, Owly's Andy Runton, Jeffrey Brown,Nate Powell, Matt Kindt and Kevin cannon. Yes, something tells me I'll be spending quite some time at the Top Shelf Booth this San Diego…
